getting lost in a momentary dream,
THE SECOND TIME IS A HELLISH DARKNESS!

NAME,She goes by the name of Odette Ciel Devereux. Her first name stems primarily from her parents' long-time adoration for ballet, namely the famous Swan Lake. They chose to name her after the princess, Odette, whose name means "wealth." Funnily enough, it does well to reflect her social standing from her childhood—her family was ridiculously wealthy. For a time.
AGE,Nineteen-years old. At times, Odette is quite capable of making herself seem younger or older through well-honed acting skills. It really depends on the situation and her mood, however.
GENDER,Female.
SEXUALITY,Bisexual. She has no particular preference in either gender; so long as the person intrigues and attracts her, she might take an interest. Keyword being 'might,' that is. Odette tends to be exceptionally picky, though she doesn't make a point of emphasizing that fact.
GANG,HOLiC. Frankly, she's the co-leader of the gang.
REASON WHY,Doctors have never been able to precisely diagnose Odette for...whatever it is she has, really. She harbors various symptoms of different disorders and, simultaneously, lacks major symptoms of the various disorders she seems to possess. For the most part, this has puzzled and somewhat frightened some individuals to no end. Nonetheless, the ninteen-year old harbors certain antisocial tendencies that are borderline, if not outright, sadistic. She has a psychopathic love for harming people both mentally and physically that derives from a tendency to play God and spin extravagant machinations around unwilling marionettes. If one had to pick merely one disorder with which to describe her, it would probably be psychopathic.
For years, Odette has placed people into certain situations they cannot escape. Having a horrific obsession with digging up and discovering people's darkest secrets does little to minimize her sadistic tendencies, as she now often employs blackmail whimsically. Curiosity is one of the emotions from which she draws her inspiration; oddly enough, she is quite similar to the owner of the Alabaster Asylum in that she is utterly fascinated with psychology and the human psyche. Being downright sadistic, though more in the sense of harming people mentally and emotionally than physically, Odette toys with people's minds, leading them to believe in warm fantasies and conjured illusions until she has them precisely where she wants them. Everything about other people's minds is an experiment to her; above all, the girl aims to destroy people from the inside and watch them shatter to pieces before her very eyes. No, she isn't victim to her own insanity; rather, she forces her insanity upon others until they are its victims. Her deceptively sweet, innocent, loving smiles often mean nothing. She acts however it is that others wish her to, just to keep them wrapped around her finger and have them adore her endlessly.
Admittedly, her love for wrecking people emotionally and mentally is greater than her love for destroying them physically, but, indeed, she possesses a decidedly bloodthirsty side as well. Odette adores the sight of blood, loves the warm, thick feel of it against her pale, slender fingers. She will maim, decapitate, and force sick torture upon others if she desires to. The petite girl studies psychological warfare, medieval torture weapons, and other related items in depth. As a child, she designed crude torture weapons that grew increasingly elaborate and sickeningly elegant as she aged. Her favorite weapon in particular is the Iron Maiden...the squelch of iron sinking into unprotesting flesh and the raw screams of victims instill in her a disgusting delight.
The frightening thing about her lies in how she possesses the traits that define certain disorders, and yet...lacks the rest. For instance, she does indeed have a good case of psychopathy. As well as an unhealthy amount of sadism. She lies, manipulates, charms, and preys on unwilling victims, just to satisfy her own sick desires. However, while she utterly lacks empathy, unlike other psychopaths, Odette also lacks deficiencies in interpersonal relationships and self-control. She can think rationally and contemplate the consequences of her actions (albeit without regret), which allows her to plan accordingly and rig things such that her victims have no means of escape, feeling relief, or getting help. Odette has a way of being quite an actress, to the point of almost seeming as if she has a controllable split-personality—she can conceal her twistedness with ease. The only reason she was dragged to the asylum was because an unexpected third party had caught sight of her machinations. After that, doctors forced her to come to the asylum. In some ways, Odette is able to relate to the doctor running the place, but at the same time, she despises him and everything his asylum stands for.

- Soothing.
STRENGTHS,
- Lying. Manipulating. Deceiving. Charming. Bending people to her will without them even realizing a thing.
- She tends to refrain from outright fighting, simply because she thinks there are more efficient ways of disposing of annoying ANTi-HOLiCs. (See: torture, murder.) Thus, in spite of her rank, most ANTi-HOLiCs are more likely to be extremely wary of her than outright hate her. (Although, admittedly, a good number of them hate her anyway.) Odette tries to keep away from outright battle out of laziness, but when it can't be helped, she will personally fight as well. Most people, because of her seemingly peaceable ways, assume that she is merely all brains and has no physical prowess. Odette lets them believe that. It's not hard to pretend to be delicate and fragile. It's not hard to pretend she isn't a heartless sociopath.
- Dancing. She used to take ballet.
- Playing the piano, violin, and cello. Her parents insisted she learn how to play classical instruments back then...
- Adapting swiftly to situations.
- Being morbidly and gruesomely creative when it comes to torture.
- Singing.
- Can remain focused on something for a long period of time.
- Fighting. You'd think a delicate-looking creature like Odette couldn't fight, but she can actually hold her own. How else do you think she managed to torture so many people without them escaping? That requires physical strength, too. However, Odette prefers speed and strategy to outright strength; she has a tendency to simply dodge and weave around her opponents.
- Use of weapons. Anything can actually function as a torture weapon, or simply somewhat used during combat.
- Enduring unpleasant situations.
- Acting.
NEGATIVE TRAITS,
- Sadistic.
- Psychopathic.

- Secretive.
- Insidious.
- Deceitful.
- Plays dirty at times.
- Beguiling.
- Exploitive.
WEAKNESSES,
- Cooking. She has expensive taste but can't cook very well. Odette isn't the type to burn places down, but her cooking doesn't taste that good, though it doesn't taste disgusting, either.
- Being genuinely empathic to most people. Odette just can't bring herself to care about people... Frankly, she hasn't cared about many people for years.
- She's too morbidly fascinated by Doctor Alabaster's work to leave, in spite of her dislike for the man and this asylum. It probably has to do with the point that she is actually rather similar to him in certain ways...
- Far too manipulative for her own good.
- Actually somewhat protective and caring towards people who do make it into her inner circle. Those people can probably be used against her. As sadistic and psychopathic as she is, she needs some form of friendship with someone to keep herself grounded and from going completely insane.
- Tends to discard people easily, regarding them as expendable.
- Can sometimes have a hard time controlling her sadistic side during battle. Things get messy at times.
ADORE,
- Books. Literature. Any kind. Even the bad ones. Odette loves making fun of those.
- People-watching. No, no, it's not quite the same as stalking. It's more like objective observation.
- Normality. Something about it isn't very boring to her. She likes reading books or watching movies about normal people. It's strangely soothing.
- Sheet music; something about the lines of notes and expressions seems infinitely beautiful.
- Blood. It's the most beautiful.
- Singing.
- Irony. Usually when it's in a story.
- Unhappy, gruesome story endings.
- Thunderstorms. The thunder makes her feel like a little kid again for some reason.
- Rain.
- Raw screams. Especially pained ones.
- Defeating a foe.
- Torturing people.
- Medieval torture weapons. The Iron Maiden is so gruesomely macabre. It's beautiful.
- Psychology.
- Psychological warfare.
- Being adored.
- All things horror-related.
- Spending time with individuals of her inner circle. In other words, the few people she has grown to trust (to keep her stable).
- Sweets. Especially cakes, cookies, biscuits, and other assorted treats.
- Ice cream.
- Good food.
- Dresses.
- Skirts.
- Ribbons.
- Bows.
- Pink, blue, and red. Mostly red.
- Beauty. To an extent.
- Flowers. Especially lilies. Particularly ones of the red spider variety.
- Fish. And birds. They're the only animals she doesn't mind leaving out of her sick torture schemes.
- Baiting her enemies. It's fun to see their reactions.
- When foes become enraged during battle. They're more likely to make mistakes and screw up.
CONDEMN,
- Snow. Something about it makes her want to wreck its perfection and leave something not quite so perfect in its name.
- Being physically touched. It's okay if she initiates the contact, but if someone else does...
- Getting her clothes ruined. Even if it's with blood. Because clothes are expensive, and she likes her dresses.
- Ripped clothes.
- Unpleasant smells. Like gas.
- People who just won't die even after she's through with them.
- Dogs.
- Idiots.
- People who are too intelligent and aren't on her side.
- Boredom.
- Having the other party realize her plans before she's done executing them.
- Extremely young children. They're the most annoying.
- Not knowing something.
- Perverts, pedophiles, sex offenders, etc.
- The idea of rape and sexual harassment. What used to be a fear steadily grew into a distinct hatred. She despises the very idea of molestation. Even though she is quite sadistic, her torture never includes anything to do with sex.
FEARS,
- Failure.
- Death.
- Personally being forced to feel the same pain she inflicts on others.
- Never escaping from this place.
- Betrayal. She just can't deal with something like that after all that's happened in her life.
- Going through a repeat of what she endured as a child. As much as she tries to convince herself that she merely despises sexual abuse, Odette knows that, deep down, she fears it on some level.
DREAMS & GOALS,
- One day getting out of this place. Successfully. And away from the doctor who started it all. She sees him in herself, and she hates him. Deep down, she knows it's because she hates herself and what she has become.
- Someday, being normal again. Being cured if this...whatever mental illness she has. And having a family again.
- Finding someone she can truly trust without fail. Even now, although she's more relaxed around them, Odette tends to still suspect her closer friends of things. She doesn't completely trust them.
HOBBIES,
- Singing.
- Reading.
- Experimenting. Or, well, more like torturing. Again, recall her tendency to play God and place people in unpleasant situations, just to see how they act before she tortures and kills them.
- People-watching.
- Napping.
- Trying out yummy sweets. And other foods that look good.
- Playing instruments.
- Dancing.
HABITS,
- Humming. The tune can range from being downright annoying to soothing. Odette tends to hum at random, usually if there's a silence that she doesn't like.
- Twirling her hair.
- Playing with a ribbon or the skirt of her dress.
- Smiling. Usually, it's a fake, sweet smile that seems so realistic that no one notices how false it is.
- Automatically examining the faded bloodstains on the walls.
- Instinctively looking at red things.
- Crossing her legs and smoothing out her clothes upon sitting down.
PERSONAL ITEMS,
- A small dress that she outgrew at least a decade ago. It's a bit dirty and wrinkled, but not ripped or particularly stained. Odette received it from her mother back during her childhood.
- Two lacy, black hair ties. Again, received from her mother. They're the main reason why Odette tends to wear her hair in pigtails, even though she appears more physically attractive when her hair is down.
- Reserved.

NATIONALITY,French. It's actually fairly obvious from her name alone. Her English, however, is flawless. She occasionally speaks in French, but it isn't particularly common.
FAMILY,ANTOINETTE DEVEREUX ;; mother, deceased.
ADRIEN DEVEREUX ;; father, deceased.
HISTORY,
- Odette's birth was nothing particularly special. It occurred on a cold, snowing February 20th. In spite of the amount of snow piling up in the outside world, Antoinette and Adrien Devereux, now officially parents, were safe within the shelter of a hospital with their only baby daughter. However, as luck would have it, it turned out that the birth was more strenuous on the fragile Antoinette's body than it originally seemed. She was informed by doctors that she could never give birth again.
- In spite of this, the couple raised their daughter lovingly, savoring their time with her because she would be their first and only child. Given that the Devereux family was decidedly rich, namely because of Adrien's high position at the company in which he worked. During the early years of her childhood, Odette was spoiled by her tender parents, but that was balanced out with the attention they showered over her. Her life was as close as perfect as it would be. Nonetheless, as it turned out, her father was steadily growing more stressed from taking out time to see her instead of attending to his work. Gradually, the stress accumulated until he had even garnered a threat of being fired by his boss. Unwilling to let his family plunge into anything remotely close to poverty, the French man buried himself in his work, striving to do keep his job.
- As she was mostly a housewife of sorts, Antoinette took care of Odette on her own, unwilling to entrust the care of her only child to someone outside of the family. In spite of her parents' efforts, life only grew to become a downward spiral. At some point, Odette received news that her mother had died in a car accident. Her father, whom had been at work, was just as shocked and devastated as he was. But unlike Odette, who was far too young to completely understand, Adrien completely understood. Even so, he couldn't bear with the pain. He threw himself into his work and hired a babysitter to look after Odette.
- Life went as well as it could have been expected to go. Her babysitter was an elderly old woman with a warm smile that reminded her of her mother. She felt comforted around the lady. Thus, it came to her as a surprise when, one day, a year or so later, that sweet elderly lady didn't show up. In her place, however, was a rough, messy-looking man in his late twenties, whom explained that he was said lady's relative and would take over for her. At this point in time, Odette was still but a mere seven years of age; she didn't understand what exactly was happening. However, the next few years with him watching her like a hawk steadily grew into a nightmare. Her father had easily accepted the man's explanation (something about having to take over for his relative because the family was so poor) and was too busy to bother checking up on Odette. Furthermore, it seemed that he wasn't doing so well in work. Their income was diminishing. The few servants that had remained had taken to whispering pitying words from a distance whenever they saw her. None of them paid enough attention to the strange middle-aged man who had shown up. A foolish mistake. There were times when she'd catch the man sneaking strange glances at her when he thought she wasn't looking. The worst parts came when she went to the bathroom, whether to use the toilet or take a bath. There were times when she could swear she saw the door creak open or a pair of eyes watching her. This continued, but rather than lessen, the watching merely occurred with a greater frequency.
- Until, one day, the man finally made a move on her, while she was getting ready for bed. It wasn't nothing short of molestation; she could feel rough hands pawing at her at places she had been always been instructed to keep hidden, could feel the sheer wrongness of the situation. He whispered hurtful words to her as this occurred, trying to break her into submission. It worked. She eventually submitted. Each night, while he didn't actually force her into having intercourse with him, he took to touching her indecently and forcing her to let him watch as she changed and bathed. The situation finally came to a turning point when he actually tried to rape her in her room—rather than submitting, after all of the humiliation and the sheer shame she had endured, Odette retaliated. Now eleven, she understood. Everything finally clicked—everything finally snapped. Mechanically, she moved and managed to grab hold of the knife she had taken to keeping under her pillow because of her rapidly growing paranoia, and managed to stab the unsuspecting pedophile in the neck.
- The metal cleaved cleanly through flesh and nerve and airway—all of this, Odette watched in utter fascination. The initial squelch as the metal hacked into the man's vulnerable neck had been utter music to her ears...she wanted to her it again, again, and again. Soon enough, in her fascination, she ended up slicing up the man's body until it was decidedly unrecognizable. Several moments of staring at him finally made it click—she was free. She was free from those awful, awful touches, those whispered, terrible words, those hungry, disgusting eyes. It was freedom. And she wanted more of this blissful feeling. She had been forced to submit to him...so why not force others to submit to her? Odette grew increasingly enamored with the concept of wielding control over someone else for a change.
- Odette had grown from those days she was an ignorant little girl. She was beginning to understand what it was like to control other people and manipulate them as if they were puppets. Donning gloves, the child cleaned her fingerprints from the knife. Her next victim was a maid who had had the misfortune of being nearby in spite of the late hour. She controlled herself carefully when killing the woman, making sure the stab looked self-inflicted. Odette purposely smudged the maid's fingers against the knife, ripped her uniform in strategic places such that it looked like she had been the one who had been molested, and left her corpse near that of the pedophile's. It would look like he had molested the maid and been killed by her. Odette played her role well when she called the police, pretending she had stumbled across the bodies. They believed her completely. The fell for the little lies she wove.
- If she was capable of all of this...then, with training, what else could she do?
- The next few years were spent killing and torturing, as well as picking up random skills with the help of unsuspecting, tutors she hired of her own volition, relatively unconcerned with the family money issue. The instruction they gave her in various fighting styles allowed her to take inflicting pain to a whole new level. When it came to torture, she took small steps at first, adjusting to everything, maiming small animals before moving to larger ones and then back to humans. Always, she found an increasingly gruesome way to destroy the body and kill without being seen. Most of the victims were gagged or drugged on the street at night before being taken back to an abandoned wing in the mansion in which she lived. She developed a fascination with everything to do with torture and psychology. Slowly, Odette became increasingly skilled at manipulating people, and she used that abandoned wing in the mansion to set up elaborate traps. Most of the victims ended up pulling trip wires and being wrenched into gruesome torture machines. Odette reveled in their screams, relishing the power she had over them, loving the way she controlled their lives with the flick of a finger.
- This continued on. Odette maintained the facade of a respectable young lady of the Devereux family with her sweet, deceptive smiles. And then, one day, she saw that her father's car was at home for once. Curious, she set off to find him—it was rare that he was ever home these days. When she found him, he was speaking on the phone in his study, quietly discussing reasons why he hated his daughter, presumably to a trusted family friend. This was a shocking revelation to Odette; she never realized he hated her. She had assumed that he was too busy. However, within the next few moments, she overheard him discussing how the pedophile he had hired to break her and eventually kill her had failed. Something else in Odette snapped. Her father found himself stabbed, drugged, and dragged off by the necktie to the abandoned wing, whereupon he was promptly shoved into one of the earlier, cruder Iron Maiden torture machines she had made several years before. The thing had been poorly embedded with glass on the door and on the interior—once she slammed the thing closed, her father's scream sounded.
- What followed was a lengthy torture session. For the first time in ages, Odette lost her sense of control and simply aimed to make her father feel pain. She wanted him to hurt. She wanted him to understand that she too despised him. He didn't care about his reasons for hating her anymore—so what if she had resembled her mother too much? So what if looking at her reminded him of her mother when she wasn't? So what if he saw his wife die all over again every time he thought of or looked upon his daughter? So what? His excuses meant nothing to Odette; they were flimsy, silly things that shattered upon being prodded. She toyed with his mind and purposely pitched her voice to sound exactly like her beautiful, wonderful mother's—and then she breathed words of hatred to him in the guise of her own mother, slowly destroying him. Adrien Devereux's love for his beautiful wife had become his downfall. After Odette was through with him, he was nothing more than a living vegetable.
- Unfortunately, Odette made the mistake of growing careless in her self-gratifying quest to destroy her father. A new maid she had hired herself wandered into the abandoned wing, not realizing it was meant to be left alone. She witnessed everything and called the police. Odette was taken in and condemned as a murderer—life in prison. Detectives and police alike had labeled her as the most frightening serial killer yet, having never found the bodies. Now that they had unearthed the collection of decaying corpses in that wing...they were all quite frightened of her. However, it seemed that Doctor Alabaster took an interest in her. Somehow, arrangements were made for Odette to go to the Alabaster Asylum. She hated the place, but grew to accept it, even though she wanted nothing more than to get away. Fascination kept her grounded, however—this man...was almost like her, in the way he experimented and toyed with people the way he did. Slowly, Odette grew to like the place, just a little bit. She hid her experiences from the others and quickly rose through the ranks of the HOLiC gang with ease, settling into the position of co-leader, a position in which she still remains today.
EXTRA INFO,Although she seems well-controlled in spite of her sadism and psychopathy, on some deeper level, Odette is actually precariously close to insanity. Strangely enough, she is actually able to keep herself grounded by torturing other people. Even weirder is the point that she actually does keep some friends that she trusts a little bit—that tiny bit of social contact actually keeps her from snapping completely and provides her with a sense of stability.
